Drive-In Movie Experience

Remember the good old times, when people drove their cars to watch a movie out in a large lot? To celebrate the end of the year with the Kindergartens (along with other students who completed the Math Challenges), the students were invited to a Drive-In Movie Experience. They decorated their own boxes and some were pretty darn cool, some cool cars had working headlights, car seats, seat belts, and car doors; it was a great way to bring families together for a student project. The students loved watching the movie (Phantom Tollbooth - which also had a boxcar and deals with math and words) and enjoyed popcorn and juice.  The best part was that each student had their own space and the popcorn was contain inside their cars.
I highly recommend you have your own drive-in experience!

Target is a Dangerous Place for Teachers!

Hi, Im a teacher..and I may be what some people call "a teacher hoarder."  I can't help it! I went in to buy travel sized bottles and came out with 3 bags full of teaching supplies. I made a point of walking with my eyes focused straight ahead (knowing that the Dollar Section is the first thing I would see), but out of the corner of my eye...I SAW IT! DR. SEUSS is back!!! and just my luck, they also had containers galore! I quickly grabbed a basket cart, to stock up for Read Across America for March 2013.
Okay, I also found these cuties...wonder what I should do with them..

Coolest Teacher Gift

One of my parents surprised me with the CUTEST flowers ever! She knows how much I love animals, so when I saw this dog bouquet, I nearly flipped! How cute is this?! Of course, I wanted to look to see how it was made so I can recreate this gift for others.

Looks pretty easy:
1. Cut flowers into different lengths (longer for tail and head, medium for body, and short for legs).
2. Place them strategically into foam (which is hidden by a basket, some sticks should and can be placed at angles) to create the dog.
3. Cover flower stems with leaves.
4. Glue goggle eyes, pom pom nose, bent pipe cleaner for mouth/tongue, and for a girlie dog little gems in the ears!
5. Optional: Place candy or other goodies around the dog.

OWL Gift Tags

I couldn't resist making these goody bags for my kids. The little owl candy bars are Hersey's Mini Assorted Chocolate bars wrapped up. The template for the Hersey Bars was made by Lisa Storms and says "Owl miss you" on the front, and "Have a great summer!" on the back. (I found her blog via Pinterest). You can give your students one Hersey's Owl Bar or put them in a snack bag with the topper. The topper can be found here. Hope you like it!

It was o-FISH-ally great..Gift Tags

Sorry, I've been missing from Blogland (it's been hectic), but Im hoping to make it up with these little gift tags. I know most of you are already done with the school year (so jealous), I have 3 more weeks! Promise to blog more (especially on Common Core) over the summer. In addition to teaching Kindergarten, I also teach the GATE class (Gifted And Talented Education). It's a small class comprised grades 3-5. I thought it would be cute to make them these little gifts. The candies are Swedish Fish that I placed into snack sized zip lock bags.

www.cookie.com is amazing. If your a primary teacher, it's a site you need to check out. Not only is it great to teach math, ELA, reading and science, but it's also great for my students learning English.  Everything is interactive and there are online books students can read or be read to. This is what their website says:
At cookie, child experts and educators design interactive online games for kids. Our learning games for kids help in building skills needed for success in school. While playing our fun educational games, kids learn to read with phonics, build skills in math, language, social studies, science and much more. Our educational videos encourage children to keep learning, even after school hours.

Furry Friend Linky Party

Soaring Through Second Grade is having a Furry Friend Linky Party. Im excited because this is my very first Linky Party. Also, if you join as a new follower, she'll donate (up to $50.00 a 4-legged charity) and she's having a give-away! To make this teaching related (as teachers always have to do), you need to say what your furry friend has taught you. Click the link above to join the fun. I LOVE any excuse to showcase my puggie!

That's right..#1 Pug!
Chloe was my class mascot when I taught 4th/5th grade and she definitely united us as a class family. We called ourselves "Pugsters!" She definitely tied us all into a true classroom community. (FYI: She loves playing dress-up..anything for a cookie.)
Puggie Pawter was her Halloween costume.
Chloe has taught me to slow down and enjoy living in the moment.  She has unconditional love (well - she'll have unconditional love for anyone who has cheese). She has also taught me never to give up..how? you ask? Well, she'll beg incessantly until she gets what she wants..(i.e. cheese). I obsessively love my  pug!
